Somalia’s South West State Wants Ethiopia to maintain peace support
Addis Ababa February 19/2016 South West State of Somalia says it wants continued Ethiopia support to ensure peace and stability in the country.
Ethiopia has been assisting the country through offering trainings for its security forces but, according to Sharif Hassan Adan, President of South West State of Somalia, the country now wants that support to be further maintained.
The president’s remark came today as he held talks with Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Tedros Adhanom in Addis Ababa.
The two sides talked mainly about issues of security where President Adan recalled Ethiopia’s leading role in the fight against al-Shabab in Somalia.
According to the visiting President, the two sides agreed on ways of building capacity of security forces in the South West State of Somalia.
Ethiopia is part of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) and it has been supporting Somalia by providing trainings for security forces in South West State of Somalia, he said.
“We are very much grateful with the collaboration of Somali armed force with Ethiopian armed forces in South West State of Somalia,” President Adan stated.
He also spoke of various military actions taken against the militant group al-Shabab with the support from Ethiopia.
Minister Dr. Tedros on his part assured the president of Ethiopia’s continued support in the areas of security.
Ethiopia has always been committed to supporting the people of Somalia, Dr. Tedros added.
The minister also called upon leaders of Somalia to step up ongoing military campaign against al-Shabab.
